I have a full grain leather jacket from 1962 and it looks amazing. Tough as nails! Sadly I had to get the original Talon zipper replaced with a modern one when that finally wore out

ALSO if you see “PU Leather” on a garment tag it’s not a type of leather at all. The PU is short for ‘polyurethane’ which is essentially plastic. It’s basically just cheap fake leather.

I got to help make buckskin leather from a goat once!! It was a long process but lots of fun, we brain tanned and it was super interesting albeit somewhat gross. I definitely would love to try making leather again someday

I like brain-tanned leather for crafting period pieces, it just fits the bill so well. But veg-tanned works well for most modern styled projects.

Go for full grain, top grain, corrected grain, nubuck, flesh out leathers. Veg tan is the standard be careful with chrome tanned leathers it reacts with metals 👌

Just got two watches that bands had genuine leather stamped on them. One aged like how id expect leather to while the other is crumbly like faux leather. Nice to know the reason why now. Thankfully I thrifted the watches to try my hand at taking the watch piece apart
