please don't take the front plate off! the whole assembly just slides out. take the top thing off, then grab the middle cross bar and give a firm lift and tug. it should just pop out! it shouldn't require any tools!

Come on… sliding the mech out is super-simple. These things had to be serviced on a casino floor! Stop poking and prodding and remove the mech. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that will show you how.
