There are some mechanical applications of alignment in my campaigns, and if a player says that they are playing a “good” character yet do stuff like that, I’ll have a discussion with them to reevaluate that alignment. Sometimes, only a good aligned character can hold a holy weapon, or an evil create can navigate a labyrinth in the Shadowfell. Characters have moved between alignments throughout the campaign, and it’s helped or prohibited them from accessing certain avenues, but they’re aware of these effects based on their RP. It’s a healthily communicated expectation, and it gives more value to alignment outside of arbitrary words

In one campaign we once stuffed an entire armory worth of cheap swords and axes into a bag of holding. Creeping through a giants castle we entered a room and bunched the bag inside out….it was the castle’s the daycare

My party are typically neutral and generally try to talk things through but, one day we were really tired and some dude warned us about a troll asking for money and food on the road. group leader did the old "what's that behind you" trick it was also code for jump them and we got a surprised round and ended it on round 1 we looted his dwelling and got tons of stuff he hoarded.

we found out the sheep we found was actually a wizard affected by a modified polymorph spell. instead of helping him change back we kept him and started using speak with animals anytime we needed something from him.
