@myteacherface: #TikTokLearningCampaign #teachersoftiktok I stand by this answer 100%!!! As a student even I wanted to know why we were doing certain activities and reading certain things. Giving a standard answer of “Because it’s in the curriculum” might not be the best way to get students to buy-in. Letting them know what it is actually doing for them and their education might be the motivation that some need! #Myteacherface #teacher #teacherlife #funnyteacher #teachercomedy #teachers #teachersoftiktok #tiktokteacher #teaching #TikTokLearningCampaign

My 8th grade history teacher would have a section of notes on the board that were labeled “stuff you’ll only need to know to win on Jeopardy” I’ve won final Jeopardy 3 times based on her notes.

I said that to a resistant student and he said, “ok, that makes sense. Thanks!” They just want you to be honest.

I tell them that I am teaching them how to learn because in the real world you will have to learn things when you have nobody to teach you.

I teach HS math. The chances that anything I teach will even be on Jeopardy! is painfully low.

I’m a former music teacher. When I’d have middle school kids complain about my required class and that they wouldn’t be musicians when they grew up I used a story about football players bench press but they don’t bench press during the game so bench pressing must not matter either. They spluttered and commented about needing to build muscle to play well. I said learning about music did the same - it built muscle and intangibles they could apply elsewhere.

When I’m teaching and I remember that it was a clue on Jeopardy I always tell my students “blah blah blah, hey this was on Jeopardy the other day, you could have gotten this right!”

I teach precalculus. I tell them often that while the math will be impoetant for a few of you who take calculus, the rest of you are learning how to the components of a problem and how to decide what methods are needed to deal with those components. I also tell them that I guess I could give

Logical reasoning is the best, most universally applicable skill that any teacher can teach. It transcends all other life requirements. Illogical decisions lead to incidents.

This is ME!! I'm so transparent with kids because it's crucial to me the srudents understand the system as early as possible. As a math teacher, I also remind them that math is a THINKING skill, not just numbers.

This is exactly why I don’t subscribe to the view that we need to teach students to use AI in high school or college writing courses. We’re learning the skills of critical thinking, organizing, supporting, elaborating, detailing—and we’re learning it from the production side instead of the analysis of work from another source.

I’m an univ advisor and talking about transferable skills from core Ed’s or classes that “have nothing to do with my major” is a constant. As a full fledged adult, there are so many weird skills that I’m grateful I learned and developed, despite not remembering the content surrounding those skills 😅
