Always skip currency exchange booths: they have bad rates and hidden fees. Use ATMs at your destination to take out cash instead, but decline the ATM’s currency conversion and choose to be charged in local currency. Even better, use a debit card like Charles Schwab’s that refunds ATM fees and has no foreign transaction fees.

Use your ATM card at a banking machine and decline the conversation rate from the machine. Your bank’s conversion rate and the fee for the ATM will be much lower than those currency exchange places.

some banks charge a 3% fee per transaction. which is cheaper. I would open a brokerage /checking with fidelity or charles schwab. prefer fidelity because they reimburse all atm fees in few days, schwab at the end of month

The best practice is go to an atm at the airport and say no when it asks if you want to accept the exchange rate

Why are we going to exchanges anyways? Most places accept cards! A lot of cards have no foreign transaction fees…

Order foreign exchange from your bank before your trip. Usually it take 1-2 days get delivered from your bank and then, you pick up foreign exchange cash.

Hi! I learned to send myself money via Western Union. It’s usually free or a fee of up to $5 and they give the best exchange rate.

You never go to a currency exchange. Always go to a bank ATM and withdraw cash if you need cash.
