@theplantslant: Replying to @user765546645879 I would go with people like @Hank Green and not people fearmongering from a place of ignorance like @James Li #food #foodsafety #bread
Yeah, homemade sourdough lasts maybe a week. But it’s because it doesn’t have preservatives. Preservatives help preserve things. Because who can afford to buy new bread every 4 days????

I've learned not to freak out over consumable items until Hank, yourself, or Scott talks about it.

As a chemist I always roll my eyes at the whole “if you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it” stuff because most of the time they’re usually just using the proper name for something. Thanks for always using your platform to educate ❤️

James Li’s entire brand is just fear mongering endlessly about everything. Politics, the economy, you name it. He just peddles misinformation and fear for money.

People are upset their bread doesn't go mouldy in 3 days like it did when we were kids.....I don't want to buy bread at £2 a loaf 2/3 times a week and have to chuck half of each loaf out each time. Give me the supposed chemical sponge bread please

man there are genuine problems with the food industry. these type of videos about certain ingredients being different or being banned in other countries is not the conversation at hand.

An old school method for reviving dry sourdough is to run it under the faucet and squeeze the water out before popping it into the oven. Makes the bread fresh again. Good bread can withstand water. So not weird at all

My homemade sourdough bread springs back immediately and doesn’t ball up into a ball of dough. That just means I have built up enough gluten and baked it well enough for it not to turn back into dough

Having been to Europe, the reason they’re in a much better position health wise is food access. It was a 5 min. walk to the store from where I was staying. I have friends here who drive 30 min. to get to a grocery store. It’s not a conspiracy it’s food deserts. We need to build grocery stores, not paranoia.

I like when people try to argue that Europe uses real ingredients in their food because the labels list fewer ingredients. Europe just has less strict labeling requirements. They can list "Baking Soda" while America has to list the actual chemical of "Sodium Bicarbonate"

I had a feeling when I first saw that video, just based on what I learned in culinary school, that it probably had to do with the gluten structure over anything else. Glad to see I was on the right track! 😅

And some of the additives and ingredients are banned for humanity reasons.
IE: This ingredient is not harmful to humans, but may be harmful to the livestock it is given to.
