Oh living in Japan is the definition of a tradeoff. It is fantastic living here but there’s a cost. Raising your kids in Japan with your imput, the balancing side, will be fantastic for them. I only wish I’d encouraged my daughter to read more in English.

how wonderful for your children. I am sure they will appreciate your diligence in
providing a way for them to live and learn within their culture as they get older

Planned on moving to Japan, visited many times and I’m just coming off of a months long vacation currently in Osaka. Lots to love about Japan but unfortunately the Japanese culture focuses on always prioritizing Japanese (pure ethnic Japanese) people over everyone. I don’t think living in a politely racist country is for me and I definitely wouldn’t want to make my children suffer that. I hope your experience is different but from what I’m seeing that mindset is only growing.

We’re two foreigners living here with our white kids. They’re so young that they’re essentially growing up Japanese. It’s a ride, that’s for sure. But I don’t regret the decision. I’m British and my husband is American and Japan has always felt like home

I’m Filipino living in Japan for 6 years too my eldest is 5 youngest is 2 . We’re multilingual fam, I’m trying my best to teach them English at home . Both of them can talk 5 languages now and read books with those 5 languages. And as much as possible we let them explore both Japanese cultures and my roots

move to sf bay area. I grew up in a very multi racial community. blended families everywhere. you do lose culture but you can keep it by visiting and speaking Japanese to your children.

I went to international school in Tokyo and moved to Boston for uni. Very good experience as in cultural diversity. I wouldn’t recommend public schools in Japan.

Primary school would be fine, but I’d fear the stress they have in high school
