and like- kurt may have played a lot better than his music showed. sometimes musicians restrict what they play to match their genre or style like billie joe armstrong- he could shred if he wanted to. there's songs and videos of him doing it. but he doesn't because that isnt what his music requires

Anyone who thinks that Kurt Cobain couldn't play the guitar doesn't understand the instrument as well as they think they do. Cobain is ranked #88 (i.e. Top 100) by Rolling Stone Magazine in its Top 250 Guitar Players of all-time list and deservedly so.

But he just riffed off the Beatles rubber soul album. Which is Ok, they riffed off older work. Good songwriters just rewrite the same beautiful melodies over and over.

Kurt Cobain had this very unique way of playing very simple melodic guitar coupled with the odd and complicated,you can see plain sight influences, if you run drain you clean guitars with toned down vocals it's a Beatles song, theres no face melting 80's solos here no S.R.V showcase of brutal guitar talent,it was never in the guys vision for what they created

imo Kurt was an amazing guitarist for nirvana. he served the music perfectly and for grunge especially not every guitarist is Greenwood or Gilmour. some genres need different abilities

Lots of people make this same mistake that Kurt was not a good guitarist or had no idea what he was doing when it came to writing or even his gear when in reality he was very particular about both.

I say this all the time... "just because it is hard to do and is technical, doesnt mean it sounds good" that slow simple melody extracts such emotion and is will permeate my brain for the rest of my life. That shred sweep picking 200bpm "oh cool" forgotten

eh. I thought he was a genius when I was a teen but he stole a lot of melodies. he has some originals sure and his vocals are all his I think. I suppose there is a genius to how he accomplished what he did, but his appearance (he was beautiful) also helped a lot.
