He asked: “What is troubling you?” “My sins,” replied Ibn Masʿud. “What do you desire?” “The mercy of my Lord.” ʿUthmān then asked, “Should we call a doctor?” Ibn Masʿud replied: “It is the Doctor who has made me ill.” “Shall we offer you some money?” “I have no need for it.” “Then shall we give it to your daughters?” He said: “They have no need for it either.
