ooooo okay so what if before Ribbit abstracted he and jax were close friends, and jax would pretty much ignore everybody else as he went with Ribbit somewhere and they woukd also pull pranks on the others such as kaufmo, ragatha ans kinger + his wife? like, and then after ribbit abstracted jax became more distant but still talked to everybody and hid what was hurting him so that caine didnt need to be concerned and that jax could make himself feel better. but maybe deep inside or whenever jax goes to 'sleep' he has a picture of ribbit on his bedside like table and also ribbits bow so jax like stares at them both then silently cries himself to sleep? hehe
