I'm not a native English speaker, but I prefer "often" without the T. I have learned to pronounce this way in school and, therefore it sounds better to me.

I'm French, I was taught the version without the T sound. I spent a year in Leicestershire and travelling around and I was surprised to hear the T sound. Anyway I taught my pupils the
version without the T sound.
