Now, the hard truth... not getting into medical school after all the time and effort you put in to apply feels like the end of the world at the time but I promise you it isn’t because those were exactly my thoughts 5 years ago and now I’m a recent med school graduate & incoming OBGYN resident and couldn’t imagine my path looking any other way ❤️ so take some time to grieve the reality of not getting in, however long that make be for you (I was lost and unmotivated to do *anything* related to reapplying for a sold year and a half) but after that period, it’s time to take an *objective* look as yourself as an applicant. write down Every. Single. Factor. of your application and write a list of ideas to improve each thing (even for those who will be first time applicants, not just re-applicants!) low gpa → post-bac or masters low mcat → retake & tweak your study strategy no clinical experience → start working as an MA or EMT didn’t do well in interviews → invest in at least 3 mock interviews next time applied late in the cycle → apply the first week took weeks to submit secondaries → pre-write next time and turn them in within 3 days no shadowing → call 30+ private practices in your area until you get a yes the list of opportunities to improve goes on... and before I reapplied I did ALL those things and more.
