@mateenq2: Reinforced concrete is easy and practical but when concrete structures need more strength for longer span engineers resort to prestressing. Prestressed concrete is mainly used in bridge girders but also extremely common in parking structures and slabs for large buildings. To understand how prestressing actually works it’s important to visualize how the force from the release of the tensioned strands acts on the concrete. This force combined with the placement of the steel tendons cause camber and for the concrete structure to stiffen. This helps prevent the concrete from cracking and not to mention steel strands are four times stronger than standard rebar. A lot of engineers don’t learn about prestressed concrete in undergrad so hopefully this gives an overview to anyone who may be interested. #engineering #construction #structuralengineering #engineeringstudent #concrete
ive literally read a plate Today saying prestressed concrete pole, and now i see this TikTok explaining

what you're describing is post-tensioning, which is only one form of pre-stressing. not all pre-stressing is post-tensioning. there's also pre-tensioning.

I Build Disposable Homes🇨🇦 :
W call them post tension (PT) cables in commercial construction and they have become the industry standard for offices because it allows you to have columns much further apart.
It makes for quite a hazard though cuz if someone with the hammer drill where to accidentally damage one of these cables they could rip out of the concrete and cut the worker in half.

I've noticed this too with the metal beams used in flat bed semi trucks.

Can you do a video explaining the difference between pre stressed and post stressed concrete please.

At what stage during the curing process is this carried out? Would micro rebar improve the quality further?

In pretension : after concrete pouring, how many hours or days the wire strands are cut ?

but why would you go trough all the hassle using concrete for such structures, when steel seems much more durable & efficient?
