@renoatnumber18: Thankfully he said they’re ‘bonded’ so we’ll be okay but all I wanted was a beautiful wooden floor and now I’m scared 😔 #houserenovation #homerenovation #renovationproject #renovationseries #DIY #renovation #asbestos #asbestostiles #70shouse #diyproject
Please do your proper research on this and don’t just take the word of TikTok. As someone who’s dad died of mesothelioma, I can tell you that it only takes one fibre and it can lay dormant in your lung for up to 50 years. I’m not saying this to panic you in any way but people saying you could eat the tiles and it’d be fine are downright dangerous 😢

Those asbestos floor tiles are one of the lowest containing materials you can find in an old house - seriously do not worry! You’re all good :) they contain only a miniscule amount that’s not usually harmful even if disturbed

im an asbestos surveyor, dont worry. they are bonded together and a non licensable material. the bitumen adhesive also will contain asbestos

You need to understand a whole industry has evolved around the removal of asbestos. Products like these bitumen bonded tiles have such tiny quantities they are harmless. It’s ingested fibres which do the damage and they are not found in these.

theres more environmental asbestos blowing in the wind on the high street than what's in the backing on those tiles. No asbestos air tester has ever detected any airborne fibres when ACM (asbestos containing materials) floor tiles have been removed. infact you dont even need to licenced to remove those tiles. Legally disposing then will cost you though. They need to be double bagged in a designated ACM bag and taken to a designated site. Good luck.

Really low amount of asbestos in these less than 3% usually and it's bonded in a matrix so regarded as low risk. Its not like things like insulation that is readily friable. You have probably done no damage to yourself or anyone else accidently damaging one or two tiles, just take the correct precautions going forward. Top fact to make you feel better, car brakes up until the 90s contained asbestos so anyone in the uk over 35 has had more lung fulls that you would care to imagine
