The only thing I will defend a man of steel is that Metropolis got destroyed. Zod is a highly skilled soldier, and even though Superman was on earth longer, Zod outmatched him every step of the way. There was nothing Clark could do. Zod is too skilled/powerful for Clark to even try to pull him out out of the city, let alone put up a decent fight
