Pharmacist here ✋🏻 I’ve been reading the comments and I feel I just need to spread awareness. PLEASE do not use the term “red man syndrome” to describe intolerance to vancomycin as it is a derogatory term/racial slur towards Native American people! The correct term is “Vancomycin Infusion Syndrome”! This is not super commonly known so I don’t blame anyone but just trying to spread awareness! Thank you 🙂

I gave a patient Vanco. She never had it. Went into anaphylaxis after 30 seconds. Intubated. I almost pushed the IV pole through the wall turning it off with my non dominant hand, I was so amped up. We both almost passed away. Patient recovered, I have not.

i was getting an iron infusion when i suddenly went tingly, then numb, and then started uncontrollably shaking and shivering. i felt ‘wrong’ when the main nurse came back i slurred out “hey ma’am, not to freak you out or nothin, but i can’t see anything” and then passed out less than 5 seconds after. the nurse who had been administering it to me was overworked and distracted and was pushing way too much way too fast and full sent me into shock 😂😭

had a patient do this...nothing I mean NOTHING in chart, I asked are you allergic to anything? he said NOPE NOTHING, twice mind you! I push meds! he said and I quote, as soon as I finished pushing, OH YEAH I FORGET, I AM ALLERGIC TO PENICILLIN! YUP, FULL CODE!🤷♀️🤦♀️
