Points to be aware of as a teacher in Ireland. 1. For primary teachers you need to be able to speak Irish. 2. Some primary schools you need a religious cert to teach Catholic studies. 3. Yes there is a shortage but only in Dublin where accommodation is €1000 for just a room in a house share. 4. You may have to do an exam on the history of education system in Ireland. 5. Even after registered you have to complete “Droichead” 6. It can be hard to get a full contact, mainly job shares and maternity posts.

I don’t mean to sound negative, but you’re making it out to be an easy process and it is very much not an easy process. I got all of the schools that I worked in and luckily at the time there were 3 to sign forms to state the years I hard work there on my professional standing. My registration took 18 months and it was conditional on the exam which I sat at a later date and passed going through the Teaching council of Ireland is not for the faint hearted. It is an absolute red tape nightmare and jumping of hoops.

You must be able to teach the Irish language to work in a primary school. It is a core part of your daily teaching.
