Punching is a taught and approved technique in defensive tactics. As long as the level of force used is equal to or greater than the resistance being offered, the officer is legally justified. It might not look pretty, but officers aren’t dealing with compliant individuals — they’re dealing with active resistance, and their response has to meet that threat.
