if you own a place called no panic parenting shouldn't you know those life jackets with head rest and incredibly uncomfortable safe and prevents your child from keeping his or her head out of the water ...

100% on the life jackets. I was a lifeguard for years, but went to the beach with my toddler, carried him in the water and we got knocked over by a wave when the sand washed away under us. I caught him but that could have been tragic. He ALWAYS wore one.

how old do they have to be to not need the life jacket? mine are 9 and 6 and pretty strong swimmers. we always follow the rule that a parent needs to be within arms reach in an ocean. do they still need life jackets?

When I was 6 I was caught in a strong undertow and taken out on the ocean. My dad was able to grab me by the ankle and pulled me back to shore. It happened so fast! I even knew how to swim and went to the beach often.

Im the mom that doesn't care if my kid doesn't like it.. we will spend days inside practicing wearing it without issues before we head to the water! it saves lives and my kids know we put them on before we leave our car! It really can become a part of your swim wear if you allow it to not be optional. Want to go to the beach then you are agreeing to wearing a life jacket in our house!
