Grief has its own brand of intrusive thoughts. I don’t know how else to explain it.

My mother died when I was 16. And since I was in my 30s, and now 40s, when I have a friend or colleague who has a parent die, my first thought is usually “yeah, well… that’s what’s ‘supposed’ to happen. At least you got yours until you were an adult.” And of course I never say that, but it still gives me a tinge of resentment and clouds my sympathetic response, even though my situation and theirs have nothing to do with each other, and it’s completely unfair for me try to cast myself as the main character in their story, even if it’s all happening in my head.

And that is why the grieving process is very isolating.

Yeah it’s insane! My son was diagnosed with Leukemia 6 weeks before his 2nd birthday this year. Why did my Wife and I have to go through this. (Treatments are going well) but we have to use dark humor to help process this.

Yesss! After almost 6 years of infertility, IVF, and 11 babies in heaven I just wonder why I have to go through so much and everyone around me is having their 4th or 5th kid

And if I’ve learned anything it’s to never say “I understand” if you’ve never been in that persons exact same situation because you really don’t understand.

I get jealous of my cousins because my grandmother’s sister (their grandma) didn’t get dementia like my grandmother did. I’m happy she didn’t get it of course, but sad for us.

It’s why me, why my baby. And yes envious that for me pregnancy=loss and I can’t fathom people who get pregnant and just get to have a baby…!?

2 miscarriages and about $70k deep in IVF fees and I feel this. I wish I didn’t, but it’s difficult not to.

I had an ectopic pregnancy during the same time of your loss last year and I felt angry when I saw pregnant people around me. I hated that I felt this way, because in reality we never know what anyone really is going through.

Profound loss is isolating and lonely. Grieving what could have been or should be is life changing and no one understands until something profound hits them.

molls996 :
No. I don’t feel hatred towards loved ones that haven’t gone through what I’ve gone through, because I’m grateful that they haven’t had to experience that pain. I feel jealousy maybe at times, but more so appreciation that they haven’t had to grieve/suffer the way I had to. The “disconnect”is very selfishly imposed as a “but what I went through is worse” type mindset.

same. It’s envy for me, not anger/resentment. Like how’d you become God’s favorite? Lol

My baby passed in March and a week after my miscarriage my cousin announced her pregnancy and I felt so angry that my baby didn’t make it while she got pregnant and got to continue her pregnancy I hated that I felt that way

I think it's human, and you dont wish the pain onto others. You just feel sad and it hurts to see others enjoying time w loved ones or having healthy pregnancies ect because it reminds you of your loss.

I lost my husband when I was 34. I have two small kids. I do it all alone. No one knows the complex feelings. He was supposed to be here. I have no one to share the highs and lows of parenthood with. No one to smile at when the kids shine. No one to make the difficult decisions with. I’m so alone.

I feel that person. Lost my mom at 22. Now at 57 some of my circle is losing their parents. They “know how I felt now” um no. My mom was 48. I only had her for 22 yrs. So you don’t. I realize many had it way worse than me.
