you know what's amazing , I've owned 40 or so cars in my life and never blew up an engine. is this common for new engines ? I own two jaguars right now and both are amazing

Had multiple fleece cheetah turbos fail just like that as well.( on one of their engines) All I got was crickets and told to buy yet another one from them. I went back with industrial injection and been perfect since

If you guys re clocked the turbo for installation, it’s possible you didn’t realign the two sides properly and misaligned the housing causing the fins to slightly touch the housings. I’ve done this a few times at my old shop. I learned to always check the blades and see if they spin freely after re clocking turbos.

My guess, a piece of old turbo gasket fell in. Could have been lodged when the new turbo was installed and went through 6 months later.

I’d be willing to bet bearings failed and it tore its self apart. Seen this a few times.

I guess we’ll never really know. I’m looking at these fins and there is kind of a clean 90 degree notch that sort of moves outward as it progresses through the fins. Whatever caused that (pretty clean) cut was strong enough to push all of the fins into the housing. I’d be willing to bet it was a piece of the old turbine ejected into the carbon garbage lining the exhaust manifold.

bearing went bad and the excessive play caused the fins to hit the housing. as this gets worse you can actually have the fins lock up in the housing. luckily intercoolers filter out those pieces before air enters the motor. this is why you didnt see any internal damage.
