THERES A REASON FOR THIS! Fun fact of the day guys, your brain associates a thought with your surroundings so when the surroundings change, so does your thoughts! That’s why when you go back to where you were, you remember but your brain then starts telling you over and over what it is so that you don’t forget when your surroundings change again.

I’m studying false memories and this occurs due to the doorway effect. Basically you can’t remember everything constantly, so your brain chops it up into segments and certain external cues (time, rooms, doors, etc.) can cue the brain to pause, zip up the info, and prepare for more info. So when you walk through a door your brain is preparing to learn more info and in many cases ‘forgetting’ information that is collected towards the end of the previous event (what you were thinking prior to walking through the door)!
