You can have good A1c numbers but still have insulin resistance. I am not a doctor but my son does have T1 diabetes.

My fasting BS is in that range and my A1C is normal (now). BS fluctuates so much for so many different reasons. highly recommend a CGM to see trends

5.6 isn’t really a normal A1C. That’s pretty close to prediabetic. My first was 3.4 when I was 31 and pregnant. Mines been getting higher as I age. Now 5 at 45yrs.

Dawn phenomenon. Cortisol rises around 3-4 AM causing an increase in glucose. Are you checking 2 hours after a meal?

Diabetics talk about "foot to floor" & "dawn phenomenon" where hormones cause blood sugar to rise in the absence of food because of hormones to wake you up for the day. With fasting your liver also will often 'overproduce' glucose when in a fasted state because it thinks you are starving because insulin is not letting glucose into your cells enough. that is one of the things that metformin is supposed to help with [slow the livers release of glucagon & help production of glp-1 in the small intestine]. Also, other hormonal issues can impact fasting if you have PCOS, or thyroid issues [hypo or hyper], cortisol issues [more typically high vs low] can cause insulin resistance.

insulin Resistance. I just got mine under control. You need to go to a nutritionist. Your minerals are probably low. When your minerals are low your body can not regulate body sugar. Get a hair mineral analysis done.
