@inthecottagegarden: MEADOWSWEET CORDIAL 🌼 (more info & recipe below) Meadowsweet contains salicylates derivatives including methyl salicylate and salicin - precursors to salicylic acid. These compounds have aspirin-like properties but will not be exactly the same as taking aspirin (important to note, I’m not suggesting we stop using modern medicine etc!!) Please be very careful when foraging this plant - look up poisonous lookalikes including hemlock water dropwort, familiarise yourself with all the identification features and make sure you consult multiple sources to confirm identification. ALSO please practice responsible foraging - save lots of plants for the bees and other pollinators 🐝 RECIPE - 30 ish meadowsweet flower heads - 3 lemons (zest & juice) - 400ml water - 3 tbsp raw honey Add lemon zest and juice to pan, add in meadowsweet flowers and water. Slowly bring to a boil, then simmer for 15 minutes. Leave to cool slightly, then strain and stir in honey. Bottle, then serve as needed over ice, diluted with water. This cordial will only keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks, or freeze it to enjoy year-round. #meadowsweet #foraging #growyourownfood
