Most people leave a dealership in shock and desperately call around trying to getting a little bit of relief on cost. They're just telling you what part they told them they needed.

Most shops near me will not install parts I buy. I found a great deal on high quality shocks, no one would install them. So I let a shop charge me double for inferior shocks. Brakes, same. Why?

Auto shop essentially have captive customers because the customers don’t know what it’s gonna cost and then they have to pay to get it diagnosed

What it comes down to is verifying the individual fault before installing Parts since you all have to Warranty not only the labor but the part that’s being installed. It’s a business decision at the end of the day so I get it. You guys are running a honest shop that has integrity compared to other places. Other shops will take advantage and sell you everything but the kitchen sink. The Infiniti repair is a good example.

you might be honest guys, but majority of mechanics just charge for thing they dont do, or just change parts, and when it doesnt work, just change another part and say the previous part they change was also damaged. it has happened to me

why not take the expenses out of diagnoses to get them fixed, most people don't like diag bc it gets major expensive bc they add the hrs to the service and just charge a flat rate for diag regardless of the hrs

i had a shop do an inspection and fixed the problem but what i asked for was inspect and advise do not fix they ended up eating the work and parts replaced which was a fuel pump for a 98 ford ranger

Well, I said I want new spark plugs. They said “did we recommend that” I said no, I have no record of it ever being done and I want to be sure I know this part of the maintenance is done and when.

Even when the shop diagnosed the issue, I always got charged for everything. Including all the stuff that didn’t fix the issue

I had a shop try holding my SUV hostage unless I put new tires on it. I said I replaced all 4 tires a year ago. well they need replaced again I took my reciet for the tires and they said we must have just made a mistake. I never used that shop again

yeah some customers know about vehicles but don't have the proper tools to fix it. I just needed my exhaust replaced from the flex pipe back to the muffer but didn't have a lift to do it myself. I called this muffler shop by my house and told them exactly that. I brought the parts to them and they put them on for me and didn't ask any questions. car runs like new.

just had one come in that work with this, oreillys said they needed an alternator and we could not convince customer that that's not full diag. replaced as per customer request and still no charge

a diagnosis usually will tell you why that part failed. bad part or something else lead to that part failing.

Finding a highly knowledgable workshop like yours in the uk is not easy, the guy who does my cars is very fair, but admits to limitations, having said that, if he takes a job on and can’t sort it he doesn’t charge
