Just get the dumpster. Keep the good stuff. Donate all the good books. Take pictures of the good things and get rid of the rest. Thereâs no way sheâs going to remember every single thing sheâs hoarded.

I cleaned for a hoarder for many years. The one room she was fine with me clearing out was the kitchen. Maybe you could work on that when she is resistant on the other rooms

Hoarding is very complex, unfortunately. Itâs okay to do a bit of both. But if she REALLY wants to be back in her house, a therapist may need to get involved to start helping her feel better/make decisions to get rid of things

Please donât listen to the folks that say just dump everything. Youâre doing the right thing by showing grandma that youâre being thoughtful about HER THINGS. The worst thing you could do is traumatize her by throwing things away without thought. Surprisingly this hoard is incredibly thoughtful and valuable. Youâll feel better about it in the end.
