@professor.steph: Inside The Attachment Academy, we work heavily with emotions, needs and vulnerability so that we can promote SECOND order change ❤️🩹 In my clinical experience, first order change does not last and it is exactly what you guys describe is contributing to the demise of your guys’ relationships. It’s the reason why in Emotionally Focused Therapy, we call first order change, “rearranging furniture on the titantic.” I wish this couple the absolute best and truly believe this therapist wants to help. What do you guys think? Do you feel like either partner truly understood the vulnerable emotions and needs of the other in this clip? Did you feel your own sense of pressure as the therapist assigned this task without first validating and working to understand why those ineffective coping strategies are there to begin with? If you want more support creating lasting change, consider joining The Attachment Academy where are folks who are also committed to learning how to embody second order change events 🤍🤍 link in profile #anxiousattachmentstyle #anxiousattachment #attachmentstyle #Relationship #relationships #husbandwife #avoidantattachment #avoidantattachmentstyle #marriage #breakup #dating #datingadvice #relationshipadvice #therapy #therapytiktok #MentalHealth #fyp #SelfImprovement
Have you seen Alison and Rod’s tik tok account? They’re updating on their progress and they seem to be doing really well.

Couples therapy is supposed to be in addition to individual therapy. Couples therapy alone, will not work. Individuals need to work on themselves in order to show up within their relationship.

Your feedback is useful but I think Orna is an outstanding therapist. As a therapist myself we can learn a ton from her. I watched the entire season and there is much more to their sessions ❤️🙏

I agree with you, if you are only watching this clip. However if you’ve watched a lot of their story, the therapist does seem to dig deeper into the underlying causes.

There were several moments where orna pressed on these triggers and where they came from. Her whole thing is psychoanalysis and learning the roots so I’m confused by your opinion

Thank you, yes!
In a past relationship I was feeling like she was looking for 'what to do' and not looking to understand each other on a deeper level.

People need individual therapy before couples therapy will ever work.

Is this the same idea? Our couples therapist told us in the beginning that we have to establish at least some emotional safety with each other first before we can genuinely engage in the vulnerable behavior it will take to re-attach. So we start there and the behaviors come next.

The only thing I did not hear you say is that that core attachment wounds that need to be healed is individual work not couples work

A little triggered first let’s not use Orna to try to prove or taking session and making her seem incorrect. The other is I agree it is a stepping stone in Orna’s show this couple ends up becoming open and able to communicate with other more effective. Not saying your wrong it’s different stroke for different folks

I also think what you’re saying is also a “yes and” Like sometimes those small changes help us get to a place that we feel safe to actually dig deeper. Like okay we are in a better environment with these small changes. Now let’s dig deeper. But it’s sometimes too hard when there are some behavioral issues that is hard to see anything else. It’s a long process and it’s a start that can build momentum. I’m

We've been navigating attachment theory for a while, and I enjoy learning. I'm curious though why therapists *exclusively* refer to the pursuer as female & the defender as male. Is it ever opposite in straight relationships? I'm gay, and not offended by 'feminine' or 'masculine' but just curious as to the thought here.

Couples therapy cannot work for people who are not individually internally motivated towards building something together. Most people go when it’s too late
