@francesmeimd: I want to hold your hand while i tell you this: specialty societies (including ENT) historically lobbied to maintain control over training pipelines, citing “quality control” and “educational standards” … my favorite new game is to ask, who is benefitting from this system #residency #surgeon #medstudents #medschool #medstudentlife #meded #medicalschool
Greed amongst physicians is a very real thing that’s rarely discussed so I’m happy ur talking on it

As a family medicine doctor I will ALWAYS have the moral high ground (along with my pediatric and ID colleagues) that I became a doctor to help people and not to become rich. Now excuse me as I re-wash my sandwich bags and fly economy 👍🏽

I feel like if doctors unionized then they wouldn’t need to hurt future residents in order to keep wages high. Instead they could have leverage against employers

Dermatology in Australia/New Zealand is so bad for this! And the consultants are so overwhelmed with work that getting on their books is a competitive thing for patients 🙃

Sometimes it boils down to caseload in the residency program. If the residents can’t see enough cases at the residency program, they won’t be trained well enough and will be lousy surgeons when they are done. This will bring down the entire specialty.
