So what I take from this overall and what you’re saying, they didn’t actually want freedom from another country, it was just a benefit, but they just wanted to keep their privileges, not pay for any taxes, and have other people do the heavy lifting..man, seeing this made me realize that while we have the declaration and the constitution, with added amendments, the United States hasn’t changed one bit.

It's hard to believe that the american revolution started over a 3% tax. I think the real reason it started was simply because the wealthy in the american colonies wanted to be the ones in control, and they didn't want a king on the other side of the atlantic ocean to be the one in control.

Also those taxes were because the rich landowners were stealing French land which led to the Seven Years War. Which the British won but was very costly

Americas founding fathers didn’t want to pay taxes if it didn’t come w representation. They tried to compromise early on in the revolution to stay part of England

so we are back to that point again huh? because taxes aren't going towards the things we care about and those with the most aren't properly taxed and certain institutions aren't taxed at all. might as well be an ocean between us and where our tax dollars are going.

Britains demand wasn’t crazy when you look at it. They spent a ton of money fighting France part to protect the colonies then asked the colonists to pay them back bc Britain was broke and America went gung-ho
