@drivestickshift: 🧠 Understanding Engine Types & Firing Order – Simplified Ever wonder why a 4-cylinder sounds different from a V8, or why some engines feel smoother than others? It all comes down to cylinder count and firing order. This video shows a visual comparison of inline engine configurations with 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 cylinders — each with a unique firing rhythm. 🔹 What’s Happening in the video? Each piston is connected to the crankshaft. As the crank rotates, pistons fire in a specific sequence, pushing combustion energy into motion. ✅ More cylinders = smoother power delivery ✅ Proper firing order = reduced vibration and better balance 🔸 Quick Breakdown: 2 Cylinder: Simple, compact, but unbalanced. Found in motorcycles. 3 Cylinder: Better balance, more compact than a 4-cylinder. Slightly rougher idle. Found in kei vechiles. 4 Cylinder: Most common. Good mix of efficiency, performance, and size. 5 Cylinder: Rare, but has a distinct sound and smooth torque delivery (think Audi & Volvo). 6 Cylinder: Smooth, strong, found in performance sedans and trucks. 8 Cylinder: The muscle engine. Smooth, powerful, with overlapping firing strokes for that classic V8 growl. 🔧 Why It Matters: The number of cylinders and their firing order affect everything — sound, balance, vibration, power output, and engine size. It’s not just a design choice; it’s a performance blueprint. 🎥 Watch closely — you’ll see how piston movement becomes progressively smoother with more cylinders. #cars #teacher #engines #Cylinders #v8 #inline4 #HowEnginesWork #Automotive #EngineeringExplained #InlineEngines #CarNerds #CarBasics #drivetrain
