Modern tinned food uses a plastic lining inside the tin to prevent the acid in food affecting the metal. By doing this you’re heating the plastic lining. It’s probably leaking into your food.

To all the snowflake comments about deadly chemicals leaching into the food, if you did this 3 times a day for 20 years then ok, you may have a point. However, once in a while whilst camping etc it'll be perfectly safe👍

Tom - never heat fish in the tin. The tin have plastic linings that contain BPA or similar chemicals that leach into food when warmed let alone burned. Metal and sealants can also degrade, releasing harmful compounds into oily fish. This all very carcinogenic! 😳
