@figmentcottagegardens: Do your soil and pollinators a favor and plant some buckwheat! 🐝 Cover cropping isn’t just for farmers—it’s for backyard gardeners too! I opted for buckwheat because it’s the fastest growing cover crop that adds nitrogen back into the soil. After it’s done flowering and before it goes to seed, crimp it down to form a natural mulch and weed suppressant. Your flower and veggie garden will be much healthier for fall planting because of it. Plus, you won’t have as much to weed since buckwheat suppresses growth. To grow buckwheat, scatter seeds by the handful on top of soil and water in. Keep moist for a few days until it sprouts. That’s it! Buckwheat couldn’t be an easier, more economical, or beneficial plant for your backyard ecosystem. Plus, it’s pretty and keeps well when cut and put in a vase. 💃🏻 #organicgardening #cottagegarden #covercrop #gardening #gardeningtips
