I looked into years ago. it would take me 15 yrs to break even. By then they would degrade. in NY I am not allowed to produce more than 80% electric because the electric company does not want to have to pay you.

We do solar on every one of our homes. Generally you’re prepaying for electricity for the first 6 years or so, and then it’ll start paying back. It’s completely optional, but I do agree the marketing can be quite obsessive, fear mongering.

my roi was a little over 7 years, installed Feb of 2017 no issues and warranty is 25yrs. never had a bill since in stalled and even if the solar panel die exactly on the 25yrs I would get 18 years of free electricity.. I over sized my system to include degradation and a ev..

It is a worthwhile investment for me in greater Boston. I had them installed 9 years ago for 32K. Saved 10K in federal and 5k ish in MA state tax. The SRECs have paid out 17k so far and still going. Energy savings amount to 2K per year.

People do get scammed, but it doesn’t mean solar is a scam. They get scammed by door to door salesmen and don’t go get 3 quotes. A good deal can break even in 5-7 years. Bad ones take much longer.

It's not about saving money. It's a back up for loss of electricity. We are so grateful we could afford the panels for times of black outs.

We paid cash for ours so no added interest and our electricity bill went from $300-$1500 a month to only $10 a month. 100% worth it for us, but maybe not have to finance it.

Mam, I live in California with high prices for electricity. Purchased solar and has been financially game changing for me and my family. We also drive 2 EVs and have a hot tub. I pay on average $100 a month where a friend without solar and no EV was paying $2k a month.

Gm, Thank you for replying. Thanks again for the info. Momentum keeps calling phone every day 2-3 times a day. I even tried sun run solar and they had 2 different price’s. But I think it would benefit me, I’m not sure what to do. That’s why I came on here to see what was ppl intake on solar company’s. Are u in contract, did you buy yours , or finance it?? I’m trying see what’s the best option. That’s ppl scaring me on here. I have PSEG light company . Man my bill was high for this month. 500 that a lot.

You are mostly correct. If your electric bill is less than $200, the solar is not worth it. but if you $1500 a mo.

solar panels are only if you want to live totally off the grid (in which case it's a lifestyle decision). the monetary case for them is trash and relies on stable laws re tax and utilities/sell back (which are inherently unstable and subject to significant change in law risk).
