Kids in grammar are there on merit. In private school, you are there because you can afford it.

My peers at my grammar school worked soo hard and they motivated me to work hard also. Like I’m forever grateful for them.

Grammar school kid here. Never been pushed academically more in my life than back at school (and this includes medical school). And the best bit, you just meet other nerds who are usually quite likeable. Still hang out with my school mates till this day - left school in 2007!

People who go to either just think their kids are better than everyone else’s

100% grammar school then spend the money on building their skills, i.e. sports, languages, instruments etc.

I think it depends where you live. In counties like Kent that are all grammar it’s not particularly hard to get into and whilst I’m sure you’ll be better off there, it’s not the same experience as a very academic intense grammar like Henrietta Barnet, say.

I went to grammar school, my brother went to private school and it was best for both of us where we went, I am more academic whereas he is more creative, so private school was better for him. So sometimes I think that factors in too.

Not all kids at grammar school are there becuse of academics! Watford Grammar for girls takes in 50% of its cohort on sibling rule, just because one sibling got in on academia doesn’t mean the other sibling is too

@High on life: Some grammar schools you pay yearly fees and have to take a test to get in . So you need to be bright and wealthy to achieve a place

Grammar school you will be pushed academically. I imagine private has more facilities and connections tho. Depends on your child’s needs and strengths imo.

Also our grammar is so multi cultural and my kids have friends from all walks of life. They are open minded and respectful, which I love. They understand different cultures which is so important in our world xxx

You can’t buy your way through private school. My son just finished Year 1 and is going through the 7+ entry exams at the moment, competition is insane (at least in London, lots of smart Chinese and Indian first generation immigrants all pushing for private school).

Choose the best school for your child. I was pushed into a girls private school and I hated it. I wasn’t suited. I have two very different children and I would put them into different types of school in a heartbeat if I knew they would be happy and thrive.

This makes me so sad as someone who got full marks in some of my a level exams at a state fe college
No one is fighting for you or helping you play dirty to get ahead
Youre lucky if you're even told to apply to russel group / top uni.

I am currently at westminster school and it's a private and my mother put me in it as I had a scholarship and bursary which made up 100 percent plus extras and rejected an offer for wilsons school and I think that private school is still more academic .
