just watched Alien and thought about how gross and humid it must’ve been on set, and how actors don’t fidget or react in realistic ways in CGI sets bc there’s no subconscious urge to swipe your sleeve over your forehead or spit the sweat off your upper lip if you’re not actually sweating that hard

There is a good reason for this. The negative film stock used during this era wasn’t the best at preventing halation and blooming due to how the 5293 & 5296 stocks handled light exposing the layers. Making exteriors “wet” helped these types of film stocks with light reflections and gave better contrast control to the image (especially on night shoots) even with 250D on a speed lens, much of a city street would look black and void without light reflecting off of the water particles on the concrete or tar surfaces. Interesting stuff.

I feel like the acting was so much more authentic - for some reason I feel social media has played a role in this…. Can’t put my finger on it but that’s where my mind goes - the acting is just that - acting & it’s so obvious - they’re not really selling us on the storyline or characters anymore
