I’m 4 years into my mortgage and I pay £560 a month. £160 of that is off my debt and £400 is interest 😀😀😀😀😀 doesn’t matter if the house doubles in price over 20 years because I’ve already lost that in interest!!! Scam!!!!

The truth is that, in the long run, you make money(through value appreciating) and the bank also makes money (through interest) . It's a win win situation for both parties. Bought my first home in 2011 at £155k, sold last year at £310k, a gain of £155k. I calculated all the interest paid to the bank in 13 years as well as major home improvements/repairs all came to about 60k. Net profit 95k which is not bad at all.

Mortgage first 3 years will take most interest they can, in case you remortgage, they have to make profit first, that’s how every mortgage works, I used to work in mtg industry

I'm on 1.9%. Overpaying for me is a waste of time. Makes hardly any difference & they won't recalculate unless I remortgage. I'm better off saving a lump sum (with 4% interest) for when I remortgage in 2 years.

I do not understand ppl who see a mortgage as a scam. I pay less for my mortgage on a 4 bed detached house than I did rent on a 2 bed flat. My rent would go up every year without a fail by 10-15%, with my mortgage i know what I’m paying for the next 5years. At the end of the day I can sell the house for more than I bought it. But each to their own

this is why overpayments are so powerful, even 100 extra is 1200 straight off the balance and loads off the interest

Watch “the great British mortgage swindle” on YouTube, you’re the creditor, the money didn’t exist until you signed the mortgage paperwork, then they securitized your “promissory note” (mortgage contract), place the money into the system like typing into a cell on a spreadsheet and sold it your note to people who like to get monthly income from securities. So if you created it, it’s your money, so why are you repaying it… 🤔

You’re practically still going to be paying rent every month for 25 years plus if you think about it😩

Owning your own house gives you freedom, especially knowing a landlord isn’t going to sell anytime!

But it’s better pay yourself mortgage then pay for rent to your landlord money? No ? I think it’s like investing-you can always sell it and get your money back what you spent already for repayment

If you have to have your own place you won’t have any other option to get a mortgage. Cus if you rent you will be paying literally the same amount if you were to have pulled out a mortgage. And at the end of the day would you rather not own an appreciating asset over throwing money into the gutter and not have anything when it’s all said and done. I would understand renting if it was much more competitive but unfortunately with the way the UK has been going it’s……

imagine renting the very same house ? you will be paying another £1000 on top of that. Always buy, in ten time you will be a third down the line line from owning. where as if you were still renting your rent will be considerably higher and you won't own a thing and at the mercy of somebody else.

Those who are controlling the banks, are laughing at every single one of those who are falling for the trap of a mortgage. Honestly I rather live in a campervan or in a tent then having this kind of debt for the most part of my life which is very stressful as well for those who have a normal job.
