so this is floret echinacea and their flower buds (unopened) can be relatively hard and sharp and pointy! echinacea shares the same old Greek root word as Echinoderm (Sea-urchins, starfish etc) and Echidna, the spiny Australian hedgehog thing! i’d assume they literally somehow through wind or something was able to stab through the leaf as buds then continue to grow and open, even as an flower.
