You work in a vapid, vain, self centered industry and are surprised it leaves you feeling empty and unfulfilled. If you worked in something positive for the rest of society you’d feel fulfilled but likely poorly compensated and couldn’t take vacation and work would be difficult so that’s the trade off

not to sound insensitive, but as someone who was born and raised here and ACTUALLY can’t live anywhere else, please leave. the rent is so expensive because this is the trendy place to move but it’s truly not for everyone and by people coming here to “find themselves” it’s actually just making it so much harder for everyone who’s actually from here and wants to be here to live.

have lived in nyc for 6 years and will say that the best i’ve ever felt in nyc is content with discomfort. some days the discomfort, unease, isolation, and general difficulties feel worthwhile because the city has so much to offer, but other days i find myself wondering why id ever choose to live the way you have to live in nyc to get by. id say stick it out for as long as you can because making friends w the city itself and hitting your stride takes some time. but you will for sure be able to tell when you’ve had enough, trust your gut. nyc is romanticized far too much and the unrealistic portrayals by super rich people or influencers who are paid to make you want to live like they do make reality in nyc that much more insufferable, so try to distance yourself from those idealized versions of nyc because nyc is not an ideal place. its a fun place, a scary place, an interesting place, and so many things, but it is far from ideal and it is far from an easy place to live

You don’t understand how people can say “New York or nowhere” because you’re not a native and that’s ok! I think it’s less about the place and more about the industry and people you’re interacting with. As a native New Yorker; connect with the culture and people who have lived their whole lives here. I promise it will get better. And if it doesn’t, that’s ok too!

Personally manhattan is too much for me and Brooklyn was a great in between of still feeling like I’m in the city and getting the city aspects, but I’m around more people my age, less tourists, less crazy amounts of people but still full! Bushwick/williamsburg/greenpoint would be my recommendation for people your age that are just cool people all being themselves not this cardboard copy of the “nyc persona” that I feel like manhattan can have more of!

tbh i was so burnt out on nyc until i got a car. i know it’s not feasible for everyone but it’s easier to have a car in brooklyn and do street parking. i can drive upstate, to the beach, other road trips whenever i want. it’s a must for nature girlies here

i hated living in nyc - it’s a fab city and i can totally appreciate why other people like it and thrive there but for me personally the constant noise and being perceived by a bajillion people all the time gave me so much anxiety! it also feels like you can get crucified for not liking nyc lol but it wasn’t for me! i moved to socal and it was night and day for me absolutely love it 💕🙂↕️

New York has a lot of experiences outside of Manhattan. it's perfectly okay to work in the city and live a totally different lifestyle elsewhere. For me, I live on a beach and can easily commute to Manhattan. There are options.
