The most fulfilling way to get experience is to volunteer your skills, learned in college, at a non profit you believe in. A years worth of “i took my engineering skills and used them to solve issues at non profit x” is extremely valuable information that hiring managers will take into account when judging your character qnd motivation and proof of your application your skills to real world problems.

There is 100% mechanical engineering jobs - I’ve worked in the industry for years. But the younger generation believes “I’m not applying for a job under $100k” which is bananas.

My 14 year old son is about to start his and the first thing he said after picking up his books is “I can’t wait and go straight to trade school for welding or construction 😂😂😂I’m just like this effing kid has gotten it all planned out
