I came out of theatre in paris. I d’antédiluvien this film to be great. But all my fears were confirmed: too much expositions, flat characters and too much of them, bad, very bd CGI (for this who will see it there is a character relater to Metamorpho who is so badly CGIed and badly written), no development, at any moment et où fear for the characters. And the end, the end, the end so lemmme, lemme.

This all sounds fine. I want a great Superman movie, don’t need a “film” in this case. I think we lose sight that these characters need to be viewed through the lens of a child. Eight year old me is going to love it.

I really appreciate your take but I have to admit that I disagree - one of the things I loved most about this movie is that it didn’t waste time on origin stories but dove straight in, so we’re meeting the characters where they’re at today

i’m not surprised it’s a bit crowded/messy, but i am glad to hear that it’s fun to watch. superhero movies should be fun! and hopefully we can shift out of this era where they have started to take themselves a bit too seriously at times

I think being a little bit disappointed with the movie makes sense for someone like you who is really educated in film. Gunn set out to make a crowd pleasing populist movie that was going to feel exciting and uplifting. Unfortunately I think for people who really study film they can more easily see the seams in a movie like this and the invisible strings meant to tug on your heart. However I think general audiences will eat it up. And that’s not a dig at the general audience. They just want and need different things out of movies and don’t care as much how the sausage gets made if you know what I mean. Both types of moviegoers are valid and necessary to the industry in my opinion.

I think calling it just 'fun' or 'good time' is quite underhanded. Are there some structural issues to the movie, yes absolutely but I think there's do much to live about it. I think James gunn actually put humanity back into superman and finally a superhero movie that political in a very real wat where it's not being just vague enough so it could mean anything but actually stood on a ground and took a stand while showing human vulnerability and yes actually what a comic book movie should be, hopefully and exciting and emotional.
