I am glad I came across your content. As a bus driver for almost 30 years now, how is your approach to bus discipline? I feel it should be treated as an extension of the classroom, but all to often it's not, and the basic idea is.."just get them home ". I love to hear your schools plan for bus behavior . Thank you and keep up the good work at your school

We have the same approach. Lots of support and monitoring and follow ups I also do check ins with the student who committed the bullying. Sometimes there’s a need for additional social skills or coping skills. Everyone deserves a second chance. If nothing else the monitoring and support shows follow through to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

My son and I have the staff at our school doing that a little bit different to help. Thumbs up - I’m good, thumbs sideways - I’m not sure/or I’m not ok but it’s not urgent. Thumbs down - I’m not ok and I need your support.

I really have an issue with using words that describe a student based on their behavior. "We suspend the bully". How about simply "The student will be suspended". As they should be when they are harming another student. The word "bully" has been over used and has become the title for every incident between kids. MOST school issues do not rise to the definition of bullying. And a kid who is harming another kid is "more times than not" not a "bully".

As a teacher, it amazes me how parents care if THEIR kid is bullied or teased, but not so much someone else’s child. The empathy seems to wane pretty quickly

We transferee my daughter to a cyber school because she was bullied and no longer felt safe as physical threats were made. Sadly her grades dropped, her perfect attendance was no longer existent as she grew anxious. The school did nothing, even when we called/emailed/etc. she now goes to cyber charter and is THRIVING. Grades better then ever and wants to “go to class”. It makes me cry happy tears seeing the difference in her.
