it actually controls the engine from overeving, which causes heat issues, clutch wear, seal failure, bit go ahead we mechanics love making money...

The guards are meant to keep you from burning your clutch in the trimmer cause of having string that gets to long once you learn how much string to use the guard is useless

yes it cut the string and keep it at the optimal length so it not to much stress on the engine notice when you have 4 foot of string it don't have that much power and to much when the string is 1 inch but destroy your money maker not mine hahaha
