Update on Vickie: She’s Standing I need to tell you what happened today at 11 AM. Vickie went down in the pasture. No warning. One minute she was grazing, the next she was on her side and couldn’t get up. We tried. Three of us, ropes, leverage, everything we know. But Vickie weighs 1,200 lbs and when a horse that big goes down, your body fails before your heart does. We couldn’t lift her. In that moment it felt like we failed her. Watching her struggle while we couldn’t get her weight up is something I won’t forget. We called the vet for an emergency farm visit right away. While we waited, we kept her calm, kept her shaded, kept talking to her. The vet did a full assessment at the scene. Suspected a severe muscle cramp and dehydration. She gave Vickie IV fluids, anti-inflammatories, and pain meds right there in the dirt. No fancy barn. No hoist. Just us, the vet, and Vickie fighting. And then… she started to move. Slowly. Carefully. With shaking legs and a lot of help, Vickie got to her feet a few hours later. She’s wobbly. She’s sore. But she’s standing. She’s eating. I’m telling you this straight: no donations came in for Vickie today. This emergency vet call was paid for out of our own money. We don’t say that to make anyone feel bad. We say it because you deserve the truth about what happens here at our sanctuary When a horse goes down, we pay. When the bill comes, it’s on us. Vickie didn’t know that. She just knew we weren’t giving up on her. She’s on stall rest and meds now, and we’re watching her closely for the next 72 hours. We’ll keep updating you on her recovery. For now, look at the video of her standing. That’s why we do this. If you want to help cover the rest of Vickie’s emergency bill, the link is in bio. If not, that’s okay. You know where we stand. Save horse sanctuary where they get a second chance, even when it’s only us in the fight. ---
