You aren’t missing anything , Igbo culture has been reduced unaffordable traditional weddings/ Aso Ebi - Yoruba culture , being devout catholic (British culture) , Afro beats (Yoruba culture ) and jollof rice (Senegalese food ) , yahoo yahoo and olosho culture . Our true culture is dead and our language is on its way to extinction. The older generation did a lousy job and preserving the culture.

I think unless you live in the US or the UK, you’ll never truly understand what she’s saying. Because the way that we are recommended and we live in the in between, we’re not Nigerian enough or not American enough can be so offputting at times.

It’s your birthright babygirl! And blue passport, educated abroad, gorgeous, 6’2 and fit is a flex in Nigeria . You’re literally the specification of a WEALTHY Nigerian man’s wife. Literally a trophy

I'm Igbo and African American raised in the US. I married an Igbo woman. Igbo language and culture is your birth right. No person who actually understands and values Igbo tradition can deny you your heritage. Definitely go back and live there for some time, it will help you understand things better from a wider and more holistic perspective. It's not by force to marry and Igbo man, but doing so will help preserve and pass on the culture. My wife helps fill the gaps when it comes to managing our family and oreserivng our traditions. Also, African men like all body types, you won't struggle to find one that likes how you're built.

As a Nigerian born Igbo, I don’t know the language either because of our parents not teaching us for some reason. Don’t feel that way, but I’m glad you’re learning

Idk there are also many Nigerian American men that are Americanized or have adapted to the American lifestyle. I guess everything is just preference

I’m from ATL and moved to naij and I realized I’m Nigerian in america but American in Nigerian. I met a Yoruba man that accepts that. Don’t count yourself out babe. The Nigerian men in the US are different than the ones in Naij. 💗

Girl are you me?? Lol it’s annoying when they make fun of you when speaking the language, but when you don’t you’re “Americanized” 🙄. We spoke Igbo in the house, did the dances, wore the clothes, went to the parties, but I still feel somewhat ignorant of my own culture 🥺

Being a Texan Nigerian is just totally different, then being from other states in America . It’s really hard to connect with your roots. Especially if you don’t have a large system to make sure you get the full experience of being Nigerian.

As a Nigerian Igbo man, your first point is exactly how i feel for Nigerian women. Born n raised in DC don’t really feel in tune enough with Nigerians period. It is what it is

I validate your perspective. I will reassure you that there are many people in our shoes (that aren’t African enough, but are still interested) including men so please don’t throw that idea out. There are some that are also open minded as well. But in all, go where you are loved most importantly!
