This is what's happening: tipping culture is becoming another way of making everyday life more expensive for working people. A family might be able to afford a $200 or $300 dinner for a special occasion, but when you're expected to add 20%, 25%, or even 30% on top, eventually you start thinking, "We just can't afford to go anymore." The wealthy can absorb those costs. Working people can't. And we're seeing the same thing with neighborhoods. Rents go up, property values rise, and suddenly the people who have lived there for generations can no longer afford to stay. Minorities and working-class families get priced out and pushed into other neighborhoods. Then look at who has the power to shape what becomes normal. The media, corporations, major internet platforms, and other powerful institutions have enormous influence over what gets amplified and accepted. You don't always have to physically remove people from a place. Sometimes you just make it too expensive for them to stay. And tipping may be one small piece of that larger pattern: slowly making ordinary life more expensive until working people simply can't participate anymore.
