@janieleigh11: Millions of hermit crabs suffer in the cruel pet industry every year, and it’s time we make their voices heard. Every hermit crab you see sold at beach shops is taken from the wild. The species commonly sold as “purple pinchers” is often from the Caribbean. They are forced to endure inhumane conditions, freezing cold and suffocating heat, before being cracked out of their natural shells and forced into painted ones (which are toxic to them). They are denied proper food and water and care (if they even get any), and are marketed falsely. The list goes on and on. These are tropical, exotic animals who require tedious care and set ups and are more complex and expensive to properly care for than you may think! One way to combat this is to adopt, not shop! Do not purchase hermit crabs so we don’t perpetuate the industry. When hermit crabs are sold, they are replaced, leading to more being taken from the wild and the cycle repeating. When I got my first one in Pensacola she came with a broken claw so she couldn’t pinch her food properly so I’d have to hold it for her and then when she did her first molt her claw was huge and had all its parts and I was so happy I cried because I knew she’d be able to eat better and climb better, I never thought I’d love a hermit crab but man did I fall in love with her, she chose me at the store she practically ran across the cage at me so I knew she was meant to be mine🥰

I just adopted two hermits after I found your videos while pet sitting some for a friend. They were in a little plastic cage and I offered to take them in. I ran to petco and got a 10 gallon tank and a heater that same day. We are upgrading their tank ASAP but their current set up is so much better, and they seem happier!
