I’m not a nail tech, but as an esthetician this would be like me getting mad over diy lash clusters (kiss, ucoolme, etc). Idk I think it’s weird. People who can afford luxury services and enjoy them will continue to pay for them. DIY-ers aren’t their target market to begin with.

Nail tech here: I am not upset with diy nails. The ONLY thing that worries me, is the increased contact dermatitis and allergies that comes with people doing gel at home. Most at home brands (like beetles) have really high concentrations of hema, which can really damage your skin when used often/ improperly. The only thing I recommend to people doing nails at home is please do your research before trying it

as a side note - as a nail tech, we do use a lot of Amazon products and they do last. it's all in the prep and how you're using the products. however, I also don't care if OPI is advertising to DIYers because I was a DIYer myself until I decided to get licensed in it!

Nail techs convinced each other to “charge your worth” so hard a basic short set with a solid color is $150, just to be misshaped and pop off in 3 days. I haven’t gone to anyone else since 2021, I learned how to do my own GelX.

Nail techs told everyone “it was a luxury service if your too broke boohoo” but now the broke girlies are actually doing good nails, good content and quality nail sets for the fraction of what they’re being charged
