Check your car’s settings/manual to see if there’s anything you can do about that, my car also unlocked like that and I found a setting that kept it locked until I put I open my door

I think the "logic" may be that the car detects your key is in the car, but doesn't know that you are also in the car- so it's trying to stop you from locking your keys in the car. My car will do that too and won't let me lock it until I turn the car on. there could be a setting you could change, or a sensor that you can disable though

If you use a key for your ignition, take the key out and lock it. They’re designed to unlock automatically if the key is in the ignition to prevent you from locking your keys in your car. Maybe that will work
