tbh this isn’t on derek. as someone who worked at a smoke shop where nearly every item required a scanned id to purchase, i cannot stress enough how important it is to check and scan ids! no matter if the person is ur best friend and u know their age, or they’re a regular who comes in everyday, THEIR ID NEEDS TO BE SCANNED AND CHECKED.

I am of age and I will always have my id ready so I can prove it because I don’t want anyone to be fired because of that. I would get a back feeling if someone who is trying to buy alcohol and not have their id ready to prove they are of age

Before bankruptcy A&P (pathmark, waldbaums, etc...) had a policy anyone who looks under 40 has to id and anyone with you has to have id unless child. they lost their shirt in a lawsuit. Got plenty of dirty looks enforcing it. "im flattered but I'm 50" or "oh but its my beer" buying a 36 pk with 2 underage friends. Joys of customer service. Don't know if big corp or locally owned. Very unfortunate for those fired, however protocols exist for reasons. Often legal ones

See, if it was 1 or 2 people, yea it's on the employees. But 13 people? At some point, he's at fault for manipulating people so much that it caused 13 people to lose their jobs specifically because he couldn't wait 6 months.
