Smallville was lowkey the best one imo but they dragged out the Lana storyline

I have traditionally always preferred Batman, thinking of Superman as that Boy Scout who is a boring character. Right now, with the current administration and what it is doing, I actually yearn for something like Superman. I want there to be something unambiguously good. I can see why Superman resonated so much with Americans in the 70s following Vietnam and Watergate. It’s a response to what feels like we are losing our way morally. We want somebody unconnected to the government who we know we can trust to “do the right thing” no matter what it is and who also has the power to do it.

Genuinely snorted out my drink when you explained what the Kent’s refer to as the “American Way”. Oh how we’ve fallen.

Superman originally appeared in comics at the end of the great depresssion. People needed hope and optimism, like we do today. And whenever we need hope and optimism we need Superman

Superman is not about a nice person who has godlike powers...but it's about a man having all the powers and STILL being nice. which is lacking these days🙏

the world is already pessimistic and depressing as it is so it’s nice to see a superman that is bright and hopeful. I think the world we’re living in today needs that now more than ever.

Literally just saw. Loved it. Not a “perfect” movie by any means but it hits that hopecore feeling so well. The vibe and tone are amazing

I would argue that the world feels a tad bit more unstable in 2025 than it did in 2014; and so that’s why a comic-accurate Superman is being so well received right now

I appreciate you giving historical and cultural context for Chris Reeve's Superman as I don't know much about his era

Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder made Superman an adult in Man of steel with a heavy dark theme you could sense Superman's despair
